作者介紹：魯伯特·潘尼（1909—1970）本名Ernest Basil Charles Thornett，出生于英國康沃爾。第二次大戰期間他在英國政府的密碼學校工作，戰后仍然在政府的通信總部（GCHQ）工作。他從1936年到1941年間發表了八部偵探小說，都以解謎為特色，有的還插入了類似埃勒里·奎因的挑戰讀者，頗具游戲精神。
